Traditional and Same-Day Dental Crowns Can Repair Your Smile

Smiling brunette playing with neck of green sweaterIf broken, cracked, or weakened teeth are affecting your smile, you may be a good candidate for dental crowns at our Jackson practice. These cap-shaped restorations fit over your natural teeth, and because they are tailor-made to match your surrounding teeth, they blend seamlessly with your smile.

Dr. Roger Wirtz proudly offers both traditional and same-day crowns, made with advanced digital imaging technology. No matter which type of crown you choose, you can enjoy an enhanced smile, improved dental function, and a renewed sense of confidence. Contact our office today to schedule your consultation.

A Closer Look at Dental Crowns

A crown is bonded to a damaged tooth and provides greater strength and stability. To place a traditional crown, Dr. Wirtz will reshape your damaged tooth to make a stable base for the restoration. Your tooth and gums will be numbed for this process, so you will experience minimal discomfort, if any. In fact, most patients feel nothing more than a gentle pressure during the reshaping procedure.

When your tooth has been prepped, Dr. Wirtz will take impressions and send them to an off-site lab. There, technicians will fabricate a crown that closely matches your surrounding teeth. Crowns can be made of metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, and all porcelain. In most cases, Dr. Wirtz recommends IPS e.max® porcelain. This advanced material has a unique microstructure that provides a natural sparkle. In addition, e.max® porcelain comes in a wide range of shades. Dr. Wirtz and the lab technicians will choose the color that most closely matches your natural enamel.

When the crown is finished, you will come in for your second visit. Dr. Wirtz will check the fit and ensure that it does not interfere with your bite. After making any necessary adjustments, he will attach the restoration with dental resin.

Same-Day Crown Fabrication

When you choose same-day crowns, you will benefit from our advanced CEREC® technology. After Dr. Wirtz reshapes your tooth, he will take digital impressions and upload them to an office computer. The state-of-the-art software will create a three-dimensional image of your tooth. Then our in-office milling system will fabricate an all-porcelain crown in a matter of minutes. Like traditional crowns, these restorations are available in many different shades, and Dr. Wirtz will find a color that looks highly lifelike. Thanks to the CEREC® system, Dr. Wirtz can complete many types of treatment, including root canal therapy, in a single office visit.
